Wall Street closed sharply lower yesterday , and the three main stock indices retreated, posting several losses, the most important of which were in the consumer services sector, the telecommunications sector, and the technology sector.

 

It is known that stock indices have been under pressure since last Wednesday, affected by the monetary tightening policy pursued by the US Central Bank and fears of economic recession.

 

At the end of trading in New York, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down by 0.49%, reaching its lowest record level in a month, while the Standard & Poor’s 500 index fell by 0.90%, while the Nasdaq index fell by 1.49%.

 

On the Tokyo Stock Exchange, the Nikkei index rose, at the beginning of trading, by 0.07%, to reach 27,257.35 points, while the broader Topix index rose by 0.14%, to 1938.12 points.

 

Both oil futures and gold futures contracts rose ;

 

According to the New York Mercantile Exchange, crude futures rose by 0.72%, to be traded in February at $75.92 a barrel.

While the gold futures rose by 0.21%, to trade in February at $1801.55 an ounce.

It was previously traded at a session high of $1805.60 an ounce.
